  • Often mistaken for a jellyfish, a Portuguese Man-of-War is a siphonophore, an animal made up of a colony of organisms (4 separate polyps) working together.

One of which are the long thin tentacles which can reach up to a whopping 165ft below the surface! Although the average is 30ft and they are covered in venom filled nematocysts which paralyse and kill fish or an extremely painful sting to humans (rarely deadly). Beware they can still sting when washed up on beaches!

Original artwork on A4 size extra smooth Bristol Board paper, drawn with blue, pink and green lightfast ink pens. Actual image is smaller than A4.
